Are you going to Pubcon in Las Vegas?

I haven’t participated in any WebmasterWorld things for a while. I tired of it, got annoyed by the mods and community, and pretty much saw no value to it. Now I am re-considering Pubcon because it is so mixed up now. So big, with so much going on and so many people all mixed up in it… maybe it will be good to go. Big enough to get lost in, and not have to deal with some of the less-desirable parts?

Are you going? Why? Why not? I wonder if anyone who reads this blog will be there. That might be interesting.

Update 10/14: I decided to go and booked the trip. I skipped Tuesday but will stay till Saturday morning. I hope I get to meet people there.

I’m planning on attending. It will be my first pubcon.

Brett caught up to me at a presentation I gave about a month ago, and asked me if I would speak. I’m looking forward to exploring a little more of Las Vegas.

I’d be going if I didn’t have family obligations. The pubcon is a wholly different thing than WMW.

I had a crappy time at the last one in Boston. A good portion of the presentations were very 101. So for me, it was a total waste of money. The main reason I won’t be going to Vegas is because I hate Vegas. I seriously have no idea why people like that place so much. Anyways, I’m probably going to focus on going to Search Engine Strategies and/or a conference that focuses on modern web design and accessibility next.

I’ll be there, but just for the chance to discuss things face to face. As Jon H. said, the presentations are heavily slanted towards the novice. Being able to talk face to face w/ other like-minded people is priceles though. Truthfully, I usually sleep through the first half day of presentations after staying up all night talking shop.

If WMW is focused on the novice, then SES is focused on the apprentice to the novice. The networking is really what these things are about, don’t you think?

I’m going, if only to network with the FHM models at the Hard Rock blackjack tables… :)

I’m going to see some old friends and put faces to the new ones. It’s also the only time of year when golfing in Vegas doesn’t require an IV every 3 holes.

Its all about the networking and buying the right people the right drinks. I usually have my hit list of people to track down. The sessions are merely jumping off points and provide easy opportunities to introduce yourself to others.

  8. I’m going because I’m a little burnt out on SES and thought it’d be good to mix it up a little. Like SES, I expect that most of the panels are going to be too basic, but there’s always that one little nugget buried in a Q&A or a conversation… all it takes is one really good idea that I can follow up on.

Not to mention that a week in Vegas in November should be more pleasant than a December week in Chicago.
