Amazing Seattle Hotel - not in Seattle, 3 star at best, but Ranks #1

In case you missed it, title tags are important. Check out the SERP for “Amazing Seattle Hotel” and you’ll see the power for yourself. A Marriott Courtyard property (business class hotel), in Federal Way (between SeaTac and Tacoma, quite a ways from downtown Seattle), ranks #1. Even if it’s fabulous for a Courtyard property (I choose Courtyard myself for business travel, by the way), it will never be “amazing”.

    Its funny that now YOUR websites is ranking #1 for “amazing seattle hotel” and you don’t even claim to have a hotel near seattle.

    Heh I hate it when Google ruins my examples. I stayed at that very hotel Saturday night… we had a 6am hockey game in Tacoma on Sunday. Would you believe my 11 year old son said “this hotel is amazing”, without any prompting from me? He just loved the pool and room service. But the coincidence…. it’s amazing.

    Yes, non-competitive term. But that’s not the point. The point is, someone put that title tag in place for just that property. A nice bit of polish.

    Yes, nice polish. I wonder why they did this rather than putting some “amazing” pages up for a location like:

    Yeah Scott. The “why” is interesting. We encounter so much resistance on the client side for things like page-level attribute management, yet these guys not only do good SEO but have enough flexibility to enable someone to select that long tail title for that hotel.

    SEO is important. Make room for it. Your competition is, and it works.
