New Google Logo Program: “We follow Google’s SEO Guidelines”

Sometimes you can’t compete with the BigBoys and just have to give up and make the best lemonaede you can. In the very competitive local space, I now see eLocal ranking some pages in my markets, and when I looked at their website at I discovered a new Google logo program. No wonder! How can a competitive SEO like me compete with that!

(Oops… it seems elocal doesn’t own Must be an oversight. In the mean time, find their web site at

So this new logo program includes the caption text “We Follow Google’s SEO Guidelines” and has a nice Web 2.0-ish grey box with pastel colored circles within it. Just like the colored circles Google uses on it’s various (branded) page, like this one. It clicks thru to the Google Webmaster Guidelines page.

Now I have a hard time competing with these logo programs. The last one was not too offensive at first, because it was just a simple quiz. But then it required $1000 be spent on Google ads. And then it had to be renewed…periodically…with terms that could “change at any time”. This new one is GREAT for selling search marketing services to newbies like doctors and dentists who have literally ZERO time to spend on web stuff. And this one must be tied to some Premium Partners Program as well, because it appears on every page of their site. And there are other prominant uses of the major search engine logos over there, like this amalgamation that I could never make and use without getting nasty feedback from the overlords:

Geesh… that’s some powerful punch being served up in front of potential advertisers. Hire these guys and “get listed” on Google. How can a simple independent guy like me compete with that!

(Warning: the images are hotlinked, out of respect for the owners, because I don’t want to take any chance of misrepresenting their artwork. But that also means these could be altered without my knowledge. I’ve saved some cached copies and screen shots to preserve history, in case something goes haywire. if these go away, I’ll update this post with more detail of the exact businesses that are ranking, and plenty of screen shots.)
