I agree wholeheartedly with comments on advanced SEO. Advanced really means keeping the website ranking well.
It's one of the easiest things to do, get an existing website to rank well, if it has had not onpage SEO, then do some and it will be ranking well in days, of course the trick is, as we all know is keeping it rankng highly.
Like you John I love search, one of the things I love doing is reading what sort of searches people do to find some of the websites I SEO it never fails to amuse me what some people will search for.

@John. Thanks for the kind words. I'm very fortunate to be in a position where individuals including my supervisor laid the groundwork for a solid program well before I arrived. We have other team members focusing on efforts many other traffic and social media efforts, and I think that goes nicely into Barry's point: there is more to internet marketing than SEO.

I love search. It's utterly fascinating and definitely my favorite lever of visibility on the web, but there are many others and it takes a good holistic strategy to figure out which opportunities to pursue and which to leave for later.

I agree very much, John, with the sentiments you are expressing here. I would go even farther. Search engines are an important part of Internet marketing but not the totality. So Search Engine Strategies is a move in the right direction. However strategy must also cover how your business creates a competitive advantage and how you get visitors to your website to convert into purchasers.
