Killer article, its amazing what Google will do to make sure that they are on top when it comes to the web. If this is like it is and branding is what Google likes what about the little people that can't afford this were does it leave them?

Just read your post in conjunction with Aaron's. Really interesting take on things. I guess we all want to know is where is google going to leave the little players. At the moment beyond paying for traffic there is no alternative to google where I could make a living.

corporates will do as much as possible to promote and protect a brand and pay big money in doing so, even already well established brands spend ridicolously on keeping their brand in our mind

Well, I have to agree with Aaron. This writing is great. I was sucked into the story. Good writing, John. I have to agree with you on the arrogance Google has, but at the same, I think Google has the right to be arrogant. They helped change the internet civilization. Google is a monster and their brand is marketing for them. "Googling" is a well known verb. People don't say they searched the internet, they say they "Google it". It's amazing what they bring to the table. It is technology and there will always be advancements in the future. Some people might hate on Google, but you have to admit, it's very resourceful.
